EMI and staged payments for dental treatment
An implant at ₹60,000 is a hard yes. ₹15,000 today and ₹7,500 a month is an easy one. Dental Software India lets the patient choose instalments on the WhatsApp plan page, takes the deposit by UPI, collects the rest by UPI AutoPay through your payment gateway (or marks manual payments in one click) and reminds the patient two days before each instalment.
A ₹60,000 implant case, step by step
With the default 25% deposit, the patient pays ₹15,000 when accepting and chooses how to spread the ₹45,000 balance:
| Option the patient picks | Deposit today | Monthly instalment | Months |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 instalments | ₹15,000 | ₹15,000 | 3 |
| 4 instalments | ₹15,000 | ₹11,300 (last one ₹11,100) | 4 |
| 6 instalments | ₹15,000 | ₹7,500 | 6 |
| 12 instalments | ₹15,000 | ₹3,800 (last one ₹3,200) | 12 |
Instalments are rounded up to the nearest ₹100 and the last one absorbs the difference. Options appear only when each instalment is at least ₹1,000. The deposit percentage is a clinic setting.
- Plan on the chart. The dentist charts the implant on 36 and the crown that follows; the plan total and EMI options are worked out on the spot.
- Send on WhatsApp. The patient opens a private link (unlocked with the last four digits of their mobile), sees the tooth, the fee and the options, and decides at home with family.
- Accept and pay the deposit. They tick the treatments, type their name for the e-consent, choose 6 instalments and pay ₹15,000 by UPI.
- Schedule created. Six monthly instalments of ₹7,500 are created against the plan, each with a due date.
- Collect. With your gateway's UPI AutoPay mandate each instalment is debited and marked paid automatically; otherwise the patient pays by UPI and the desk marks it paid.
- Remind and track. A WhatsApp reminder goes two days before each due date; a missed instalment turns overdue the next day and shows on the billing screen and in reports.
What this is, and what it is not
- It is the clinic's own instalment plan. No lender, no credit check, no interest unless you choose to add a fee to the plan.
- It is not a dental loan or card EMI. Card EMI from banks and loans from finance companies are separate products offered by your payment gateway or a lender; Dental Software India does not arrange or underwrite loans.
- UPI AutoPay needs your own gateway account. The mandate and the debits run through your payment gateway; its signed confirmation marks the instalment paid. Without one, the schedule, reminders and ledger work the same and payments are marked by hand.
GST on EMI invoices
Most dental treatment is a GST-exempt healthcare service, while items such as cosmetic whitening or products sold at the counter can be taxable. Each item on your fee list is marked exempt or taxable, invoices show tax only where it applies, and instalment receipts post against the same plan in the patient ledger. Confirm the treatment of each item with your accountant.
How does it compare?
Practo Ray lists payment fees of 2% or 1.8% on its Ray payments (practo.com/providers/clinics/ray/plans), and CareStack lists payment plans with auto-debit in US dollar tiers (carestack.com/pricing). Based on public information as of October 2026; check with the vendor. Dental Software India adds no fee per transaction; your gateway charges its own.

Dental EMI questions
Is this a loan for the patient?
No. It is the clinic's own instalment plan: the patient pays the clinic a deposit and then monthly instalments, with no lender, no credit check and no interest unless the clinic chooses to add a fee. Card EMI from banks and dental loans from finance companies are separate products that your payment gateway or a lender offers; Dental Software India does not arrange loans.
Which instalment options can the patient choose?
On the WhatsApp plan page the patient can pick 3, 4, 6 or 12 monthly instalments, shown only when each instalment is at least ₹1,000. Your staff can set up any schedule from 1 to 36 months, for example 18 months for aligners.
How are instalments collected?
With UPI AutoPay through your own payment gateway account when it is connected: the gateway's confirmation marks each instalment paid. Without a gateway, the patient pays by UPI, card or cash and your desk marks it paid in one click. Either way every collection posts to the patient ledger against the plan.
What reminders do patients get?
A WhatsApp reminder two days before each instalment is due. Missed instalments turn overdue the next day and appear on the billing screen and in reports, so the desk can call.
How does the deposit connect to the EMI?
The deposit is requested when the patient accepts the plan on WhatsApp (by default 25% of the accepted amount, rounded to ₹500). The EMI schedule covers the balance after the deposit, and the plan page shows both.
What does it cost the clinic?
EMI schedules are included in the Clinic plan at ₹2,999 a month and the Chain plan. Dental Software India adds no per-transaction fee; your payment gateway charges its own fee on UPI AutoPay collections, and WhatsApp reminders cost about ₹0.13 each.
